About Me

My first book was published in 1999, and I am now an internationally acclaimed author, with more than fifteen titles, translated into twelve languages. Many of my books are about Freud, Jung and dreams, because I am very interested in exploring the unconscious and inner transformation. I also enjoy writing fiction for children, because I love the playful, magical freedom of really good children's stories. For a full list of my publications please visit my author page on Amazon.

I was was born in Cumbria, UK, at the edge of the Lake District, and have lived there most of my life. The long-inhabited, rural landscape has given me an interest in the folklore and culture of my British ancestors, which is reflected in my writing and art. This huge megalithic stone, with its wise and ancient face, is one of a pair not far from where I live, called The Portals of Eden. It has a very wise face if you look carefully.

I love nature and walk often by the sea, in woods and by the shores of the lakes. My walks inspire both my art and my writing so I take notebook and sketching things with me.This picture shows a still December day by the shores of Derwentwater, with the first snow feathering down.

My deep love of nature and fascination with dreams have taught me much about natural and inner magic: the doors between the everyday world  and the mysterious, interconnected psychic world. I enjoy working in my garden, following the great wheel of seasons and talking to the animals and plants who live there. I have loved trees since I was a child and spend a lot of time sitting under them and drawing them.

I have kept a soul journal and dream diary for many years and have found that this is one of the most important keys to personal growth and spiritual development.
